Group Legal
The Group Legal team forms part of Legal & Compliance and provides legal support to all business areas of the Rothschild & Co Group globally. The Group Legal team advises on material technology and digital projects, data privacy, litigation and brand protection matters.
Role Overview:
The role will encompass providing engaged legal support on key digital and technology matters affecting the Rothschild & Co Group. This role will be integral in ensuring regulatory compliance, managing risk, and supporting the Group’s digital transformation initiatives. This will include, but is not limited to, the following:
Key Responsibilities:
1. Contract Negotiation & Drafting: Draft, review, and negotiate critical technology agreements and outsourcing contracts, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal group policies.
2. Compliance & Risk Management: Monitor and assess compliance with data protection regulations (GDPR) and other relevant laws, providing guidance on mitigating legal risks related to IT and data handling.
3. Legal Advisory: Provide legal advice to various departments on technology, intellectual property rights, and data privacy issues, helping to navigate legal complexities.
4. Support for Digital Projects: Provide legal support for digital transformation projects including AI rollouts across Rothschild & Co businesses, in collaboration with our Digital Team.
5. Policy Development: Implement and maintain internal policies and procedures related to data protection, IT law, and intellectual property management to ensure legal and industry best practice adherence.
6. Training & Awareness: Organising and contributing to training sessions for employees of the Rothschild & Co Group on legal issues related to digital and technology; to raise awareness and fostering a culture of compliance.
7. Dispute Resolution: Assist in resolving disputes related to IT contracts, outsourcing arrangements, and intellectual property issues, collaborating with litigation team and external counsel when necessary.
8. Regulatory Monitoring & Implementation: Stay up to date with legal and regulatory changes, conduct analysis, and assist in implementing required changes.
9. Training & Reporting Contributions: Organise and contribute to training sessions for different parts of the Group on legal issues related to digital and technology. Support management, board, and group reporting as required.
10. Supplier Template & Playbook Management: Periodically review and update Group Legal supplier templates and related playbooks.
11. Collaboration with Legal Teams: Assist other lawyers within in Group Legal or in other entity as needed.
Skills & Experience Required:
1. Legal Expertise: Strong experience in IT law, intellectual property rights, and data protection regulations.
2. Previous Experience: Prior experience providing legal advice on digital and technology projects, either at a law firm or in-house, ideally with a successful former experience in the Financial Sector with an understanding of the legal and regulatory challenges specific to financial institutions.
3. Regulatory Knowledge: Good understanding of key laws and regulations affecting financial institutions in digital and technology projects, including the EBA Guidelines on Outsourcing, DORA, GDPR, and the EU AI Act.
4. Contract Negotiation & Drafting: Strong experience in negotiating and drafting technology-related contracts, including IT services agreements, software licensing, and data processing contracts. Ability to advocate for the organization’s interests while maintaining compliance with legal standards.
5. Organizational Skills & Attention to Detail: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring accuracy and compliance. Willingness to take on a diverse workload and adapt to evolving legal and business challenges. Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
6. Interpersonal & Communication Skills: Excellent inter-personal verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey legal matters clearly at all levels within the organization. Ability to build effective relationships across the business, including as a member of a small but growing team.
7. Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze complex legal issues, assess risks, and propose practical solutions aligning with business and regulatory requirements.
